How to remove a wine stain from a carpet

Emergency Action: Sprinkle a red wine stain immediately with a generous amount of salt. Allow the salt to absorb the wine, then rinse in cool water. For white wine, blot up as much of the spillage as you can and then sponge with cool water. Alternatively once the carpet or rug stain has been covered with salt and this has allowed to dry, vacuum it up.

White Wine Spills

If you can launder a white wine spillage before it has dried, then it is not likely to stain. Apply an undiluted neutral liquid detergent and a few drops of white vinegar. Rinse.
